WHO ARE WE?

Queen Victoria Women’ Centre is located in Melbourne’s CBD on Lonsdale St. Our vision is that all women and gender diverse people have a place where they are welcomed, valued and celebrated and have the power to determine their present and future. Our purpose is to hold and create space for Victorian Women and gender diverse people to thrive.

WHAT SHOWS ARE WE LOOKING FOR?

Queen Victoria Women’s Centre is seeking expressions of interest for events or performances as part of the Melbourne International Comedy Festival 2025. We will be offering timeslots to shows that align with our Vision, Mission and Strategic Plan.

We are looking for feminist works which explore the experience of women and gender diverse people now in all types of forms: cabaret, song, poetry, theatre, talks, site-specific exploration and more! Our spaces are your blank canvas so we want to hear from you, if you’re interested in working with us.

Please note the following parameters:

  • Preference for 60 minute shows

  • We facilitate back-to-back shows, you will need to be able to set up and pack down your show within 5-10mins

WHICH VENUES WILL BE AVAILABLE?  

Balam-balam is our new venue located on the Ground Floor. It is an intimate space and seats 50 people. The venue is adjacent to our bar and box office. There is no private bathroom in this space. The venue is in proscenium. We can provide small amounts of storage space for set and prop items on a different level of the building. The venue is fully accessible.

Millarri Murnmut is one of our most popular venue spaces and located on our Level 5 rooftop. It is cosy, intimate and dynamic with indoor/outdoor areas and seats 35 people. The venue has its own private bathroom, awning windows and overlooks the CBD. The venue is in proscenium. We can provide small amounts of storage space for set and prop items. The venue is fully accessible.

WHAT ARE WE OFFERING?

  • Front of House services (Bar/Box Office Manager and 2 x Ushers)

  • Marketing support (EDMs, media release, social media, signage)

  • Bar services for your audiences

  • In-kind rehearsal space for your show (subject to availability)

  • Technical equipment noted above

  • Other items in-kind: TV stand, projector, screen, flipchart stand, whiteboard, tables and chairs as negotiated

COSTS FOR YOU

QVWC have chosen to not increase venue prices to continue to support Festival artists.

  • Balam-balam = $180 + GST venue hire per show or 40% box office split (whichever is higher overall season)

  • Millarri Murnmut = $150 + GST venue hire per show or 40% box office split (whichever is higher overall season)

  • You must provide your own technician/operator for the duration of the season

  • Additional equipment hires (e.g. headset mic, lighting, props)

ACCESSIBILITY

All our venues are fully accessible. There is a ramp to the left-hand side of the building which takes guests to the rear entrance and to the lift. There is a fully accessible bathroom on the ground floor. Below are the measurements for each venue door:

  • Balam-balam – fully accessible (door measures 90cm and 80cm)

  • Millarri Murnmut – fully accessible (door measures 78cm)
